The boat party that ends in a club

Boat Party Budapest has a catalogue slot on Saturday at 10.45pm. The listing counts one hour on the water, with a DJ and the lit monuments, plus priority boarding. A party bus then drops the group at Morrison's 2 without the queue. Guides stay with you. The boat is covered and heated if it needs to be. It sails in rain and wind.

One detail, because this is the mix-up that costs people the night. The 2.5-hour open bar (beer, wine, vodka, gin, rum, whisky and softs) happens at the club, not on the boat. Extras on board are paid separately. You also get the club's premium bar, with extra seats, and a discount at Casa Mexa if you want food first. The discount is not the meal.

Boat Party All-Nighter, from €45, keeps the entry, the bus and the skip-the-line. Drinks inside Morrison's 2 are not included. That matters when the kitty is already loaded with activities and the lads would rather pay for glasses as they go. You drop the open bar and the priority boarding. You keep the ride that stops you hunting five Ubers at midnight.

Dress: smart enough, casual. No swimwear, no costume that gets the group bounced at the club door. Pick the outfit for the end of the night, not only for the photo on deck.

Two €35 cruises, two different nights

At that price you are not buying the whole night. You are buying 75 minutes on the Danube, glass in hand, before you go somewhere else.

The Prosecco Boat (from €35, up to 25 people, catalogue slot at 6pm) serves unlimited prosecco, with music. The activity page files it as a party boat. In practice it is the sparkling start, not the dancefloor. Drinks beyond that prosecco are not included. Useful when the group wants the Parliament photo without burning out before the bars.

The Prosecco and Beer Open-Bar Cruise is the same price, same length, same cap of 25. The glass is wider: prosecco, beer, Aperol Spritz, spritzer and lemonade. The page says it plainly. Aperitif mood, not a boat party. No DJ pushing the sound, no bus, no club. If someone in the group chat asked to dance on the boat, this is not that.

The boat that is only yours

The Drinks Cruise and Open Bar starts at €69, for one hour, up to 30 people. The boat is the group's. Nobody else on board. Open bar of beer, wine, champagne and softs. You put the playlist on. A strip can be added on this boat if the groom is in on it, or if you are owning the surprise. Drinks outside the package stay on the group.

It is the right pick when you fit inside 30 and you do not want strangers in the photos. Past that, you come back to the public boat party, which takes a big group without splitting the stag across two boats. Under 15, the private hour is usually easier to live with than sharing the deck with other groups.

What goes wrong

• Reading 'open bar' and assuming the spirits are poured on the boat. On the €79 boat party they are at the club, for 2.5 hours. On the All-Nighter they are not included.
• Booking the prosecco and beer cruise because the name sounds like a boat party. The names sit next to each other. The night does not.
• Turning up in a best-man costume and getting refused at Morrison's 2. The evening is built to finish there.
• Aiming the private boat at 35 people. The cap is 30. You see it on the quote, not on the dock.
• Mixing it up with the Speed Boat. 25 minutes, 10 people maximum, May to September, from €49, safety kit and a handful of photos emailed within 48 hours. A daytime hit of speed. The boat is not private.

Easy to hesitate when two names look alike. The useful test is simple. Does the night need to continue in a club, or do you want a drink with a view. Everything else follows.

Where it sits in the weekend

On a Budapest stag do, the boat party holds Saturday night. The 75-minute aperitif sits late afternoon, around 6pm or 7pm, before the ruin bars in District VII. The morning after, do not book anything that needs the group sober. The shooting range turns people away if they are still drunk, and it is not refunded. Boat party on Saturday night, shooting on Friday or Sunday early afternoon. Not the other way round if the night ran long.
